A Recommitment to Reviews – Blogtober Style

Hello! And welcome! (Or welcome back, if that applies!) I’m CeeCee and this is where I review books that I read. Well, sort of. As you can see, I’ve been more than a bit inconsistent and really only posted reviews for the independent/small press published books I’ve read. I prioritize them because I write them for other sites to help those wonderful authors out there continue writing. And, perhaps it’s not great to admit, but writing reviews for lesser known books had (previously) felt like a much better use of my time than writing one for books that have been around forever or books that EVERYONE seems to be reading and writing reviews about.

All that being said, I’ve noticed the site has actually been getting some traffic lately, which makes me feel all the more guilty that I haven’t posted anything on here in quite some time – and most of the stuff I’ve posted about, you’ve probably never heard of. (Though, you ABSOLUTELY should check them out. They are great books by great people!)

So here’s my plan moving forward: I’m going to participate in Blogtober. In a less traditional way. I’m going to spend the month of October posting reviews of all the books I’ve read this year. I’ve just finished up my 40th book of the year and I’ve only posted reviews for 5 of them, so I shouldn’t have any lack of content for those 31 days. From there, I’m going to make an effort to review every book I read, regardless of how well known it may or may not be. I read a lot of books and I love talking about them, so there’s no reason I shouldn’t put my thoughts on them out there to chat about on here.

A few notes regarding the goal:

For the most part, I’m going to be writing these reviews from memory. I guess it means the review will focus on the things that have stuck with me as time has gone by, which might be kind of interesting, but does mean that there’s a chance that things also might get forgotten. For example, I don’t remember all the ins and out of Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson – the second book I read in 2021, back in January – but some parts definitely stood out to me and I’ll talk about those. (It’ll be a true exercise in memorability. Haha.)

On that same note, I plan on posting them in the order that I read them. This shouldn’t make a ton of a difference, besides in the amount I remember about them, but it feels important to disclose. I debated going back and post-dating the reviews around the dates where I read them, but I don’t think I’m going to. Just know the reviews will likely get better toward the end of October just because the reading of those books will be a lot fresher in my mind.

Lastly, and I’ll probably say it more than a few times next month, all of the opinions expressed in my reviews are just my opinions. If we have similar taste, hopefully I can help you find some great new books that you’ll love. If we don’t, I hope you’ll keep checking out my reviews anyway. I love to discuss books and am completely open – and down – for chatting about differences of opinions. I know that not every book is for every person and, for the most part, I can appreciate books that are maybe just not for me.

All this being said, I’d love it if you’d come along for the ride this October and check out some of the interesting books I’ve read. There’s a lot of variety – likely, a little something for everyone. Unless you’re into Westerns. Not throwing any shade, I just haven’t ready any this year.

Now: I’ve got more books to read if I want to hit my goal of 50 books this year, so I will see you all in October!

[Someday I’ll have a spiffy sign-off and it’ll go here.]
